The Acoustic Samples are both worth owning for me as well. Neo Soul is deserving of the praise it receives - in some aspects it captures the sound of that type of Rhodes setup more authentically than any other I've heard - the way you can get it to splat out, or get a tone that's almost all harmonics, by playing with dynamics. It's not in the same league as my real Rhodes, most notably the tone is a lot thinner, but that's not exactly a fair comparison either - I truly love to play these samples. That said, for me the Scarbee is not only light years beyond any other Rhodes samples I've touched, it's also probably my favorite overall sample library to play. So, my taste in Rhodes samples might be a bit different than most. I had my Mark I Rhodes modded with Mark V keys, which was the best combination for my relatively light touch, and desire for maximum dexterity and dynamic range. I haven't tried the Pianoteq rhodes, but I imagine as a modeled instrument it's also very morph-able.įor sampled Rhodes, I own Scarbee, Neo Soul, and Acoustic Samples (both E-PIAN and Mark79). You might also take a listen to AAS Chromaphone, though the preset EPs sound very similar to Lounge Lizard. If morphing your tone is at the top of your priority list, then you may already own the best option with Lounge Lizard.
